Job summary
This post is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic and empathetic individual to join the Acute Pain team at RDH. We're looking for a highly motivated, experienced RN with an interest and experience in acute pain management to join our small, established and dedicated team of CNS, alongside their anaesthetic consultant colleagues covering adult inpatient areas. The job holder will work flexibly, both proactively and reactively in collaboration with the multi-professional team to meet the delivery of the Acute Pain Service predominantly in surgical areas, but also within the wider areas of RDH. The role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the willingness to work at an enhanced level and practice autonomously. A qualification in non-medical prescribing or working towards this is essential. The role involves working directly with acute pain patients including postoperative patients on wards and higher dependency areas such as Step Down and ICU. The successful candidate will be required to advise the wider MDT on all aspects of complex acute pain treatment, including the management and teaching of Patient Controlled Analgesia and Epidurals, as well as other aspects such as local anaesthetic techniques. The role includes providing teaching to all levels of health care professionals about Acute Pain Management and the successful candidate must have experience of teaching and assessment of acute pain and associated techniques.
Main duties of the job
- Support the Acute Pain Nurse Specialists in the provision of relevant, effective and sensitive pain management that achieves best outcomes for patients suffering acute pain.
- Advise and education for patients requiring pain management.
- Be proactive in the development of a culture that is committed to innovation and quality improvement.
- Provide leadership and direct line management to the Health Care Assistant.
- Participate in the effective use of available acute pain management resources considering ongoing needs and potential problems.
