Job summary
The nurse specialist will assist in the assessment and treatment of patients with alcohol related problem, provide appropriate disease related advice and promote health education in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team.
They maybe expected to carry out specialist nursing and clinical procedures and refer patients appropriately and timely, for investigations and to other service providers. They will assist in delivering staff education programmes, ongoing advice and clinical supervision to other health care professionals. They will accept referrals from other Health Care Professionals; work unsupervised and may manage their own clinics, with regular monitoring/clinical supervision from the GI consultants.

Main duties of the job
- Undertakes research and clinical audits in own specialist area
- To provide nursing care at an advanced level
- To provide nurse-led clinics to assess new patients to Gastroenterolgy service.
- To provide follow-up clinics
- To provide advice/brief interventions and information on the management of alcohol problems
- To provide telephone counselling and advice

- PP126/127 or equivalent experience
- Evidence of qualification to undertake the supervision, teaching and assessing of students (essential requirement for post, expectation this will be completed within an 18 month period).
