Senior Finance Officer – Technical

Job summary

Will carry out the role of a Senior Finance Officer in the Financial Services.

Ensures all reports are processed with standard operating procedures, and in line with financial timescales.

Inputs data into the General Ledger using journals.

Supports the delivery of key performance indicators for the Team.

Ensures that information is provided according to statutory return guidelines (SFIs) and expectations.

Investigates queries from Suppliers, Staff and Customers which could include late or non-payment of invoices, invoice price and goods receipting queries, validity of charges such as Fleet parking fines and excess mileage charges. Responsible for working directly with relevant parties to resolve issues quickly and agree workable solutions.

Will handle some complex calculations, analysis, and reconciliations, including VAT.

Participates in any mandatory, statutory or development training as required.

Demonstrates flexibility and agility to handle other tasks and duties as needed to meet the needs of the Team and Department.

Main duties of the job

To support the Head of Financial Services in providing a high quality financial management accounting service.

To undertake specific projects as defined by the Head of Financial Services.

To input data to and manipulate data within the computerised accounting system. To produce monthly finance reports within strict financial timescales, together with supporting information.

To analyse complex financial queries including the preparation of control accounts reconciliations.

To prepare VAT returns.

To investigate queries and provide advice to financial services team.

Qualifications

Essential

  • 5 GCSEs, including Mathematics and English at grades 4 or above, or equivalent.
  • Proficient in use of Excel and other Microsoft packages
  • NVQ Level 4, Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Technician Level or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of analysing and interpreting performance and financial information

Experience

Essential

  • Robust knowledge of accounting and financial procedures and a detailed knowledge of the processes/accounting for the role they are apply for
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of computerised financial systems
  • Competency in working with data and databases

Desirable

  • Awareness of current NHS Trust financial regime
  • Knowledge of PAS system
  • Knowledge of Oracle finance system
  • Knowledge of Legasys system
  • Knowledge of Access Pay Suite
