Job summary

NSECH hosts the trusts acute O&G services. The Emergency Gynaecology Unit manages patients presenting with acute gynaecological conditions, as well as the early pregnancy service. Emergency Gynaecology procedures take place in the NSECH theatre suite, as well as high risk elective cases. The NSECH theatre suite hosts one of the trusts two Davinci surgical robots, used frequently by the Gynaecology team. Following surgery or admission, Gynaecology patients are managed on Ward 15 (Gynaecology & General Surgery).

For Obstetrics NSECH houses a 14 bedded birthing centre, with combined Consultant led and Midwifery led care, a 22 bedded postnatal/ antenatal ward, emergency, and elective obstetric theatres and a new, modern, Pregnancy Assessment Unit (PAU). The service currently delivers around 3,400 babies per year.

Main duties of the job

The post will be flexibly time-tabled to meet the demands of the service and the timing of sessions may change as the service develops.

The Job Plan will typically include an average of 8.5 Programmed Activities (PAs) for Direct Clinical Care duties (including admin and on-call) and 1.5 Programmed Activities for Supporting Professional Activities (SPA). A proposed job plan has been outlined in Appendix 1 and will be agreed on commencement of appointment.

Consultant medical staff in O&G participate in 7-day working as part of their normal working pattern. Your normal working pattern will be agreed with you locally as part of your job plan and this may consist of shifts of variable working hours including nights and weekends.
