Job summary

There is an exciting opportunity for Maternity Support Workers to join the Acute Maternity Team. We are looking for Maternity Support Workers with previous healthcare experience.

You will be joining the team who care for patients who are pregnant, in labour and have given birth. You will support the maternity and obstetric team as well as occasional independently care low risk parents and their newborn.

Once in post you will receive training to upskill including newborn observations, capillary blood sample and newborn blood screening as well as joining maternity obstetric emergency training and professional updates annually.

Main duties of the job

The primary role of the Maternity Support Worker (MSW) is to assist, support and work in collaboration with the midwife and the wider multidisciplinary team; in order to provide a safe and holistic approach to birth person centered care.

The Midwife is ultimately responsible for the birth person and their baby (s) and it is under direct or in-direct supervision of the midwife that the MSW assists with and provides clinical care following completion of any relevant or appropriate training.

This post is rotational and the employee will be provided with appropriate training for the clinical setting in which they are working. These settings include antenatal inpatient or outpatient care, intrapartum inpatient care and postnatal inpatient and out patient care.

The post holder is expected to undertake a set of defined competencies. Support will be given to employees to further develop their skills and explore pathways for progression where appropriate.
