Job summary
To provide a broad range of educational experience to the fellow in order to progress their scholarship, teaching skills and clinical acumen, whilst they deliver high quality undergraduate clinical teaching within Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
The Teaching Fellow will support, develop and deliver undergraduate teaching for undergraduate medical students who are on clinical placement in the Trust and studying the Sunderland Medical School MBChB curriculum.
If the successful appointee has over four years post qualification experience, they will be appointed on specialty doctor 2021 terms and conditions.
Main duties of the job
To assist in the development, co-ordination, and delivery of undergraduate teaching at Hexham, North Tyneside, Wansbeck General Hospitals and at Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital in Cramlington.
The Teaching Fellow will participate in delivering and monitoring courses and clinical teaching across year 3, 4 & 5 of the Sunderland Medical School MBChB curriculum.
To develop the teaching and educational skills of the Teaching Fellow, the post holder will be expected to register for the Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education, institution to be confirmed, with Home Fees funded by the Trust. Alternatively, a similar qualification in education may be undertaken, supported by the Trust up to the equivalent Home Fee Rate.
To support the design, development, implementation and review of simulation and technology enhanced learning teaching sessions. To contribute to the organisation and delivery of undergraduate medical examinations and assessments.
To contribute to other teaching where appropriate.
These commitments should approximately translate into teaching of medical students (7 sessions per week), professional educational development (2 sessions), and administration/ project work (1 session), although the emphasis will vary substantially throughout the year. It may be possible to negotiate up to one session per week for clinical work within the Trust at the discretion of the Director of Undergraduate Clinical Studies and the relevant clinical department.
