Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Deputy Ward Manager on Ward 4 at Hexham General Hospital. Ward 4 is a busy 30 bedded stroke and elderly rehabilitation ward at Hexham Hospital.

Main duties of the job

To assume responsibility for the devolved management of a ward/department, including the assessment of care needs, the implementation of evidence-based programme of care in the absence of the Ward Manager.o To supervise, support and educate junior members of the team.o To exercise accountability as set out in the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.o To be responsibility for all nursing care standards and to maintain high clinical standards.o To act as team leader and co-ordinate the multi-disciplinary care of a group of patients.o To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries

Mentorship Qualification or relevant equivalent qualification (essential requirement for post, expectation this will be completed within an 18-month period). Previous post registration experience. Thorough understanding of contemporary nursing issues. Experience of relevant speciality. Evidence of change management in ward/department area. Evidence of practice development. Understanding of budget and financial control. Experience of co-ordinating a team. Thorough understanding of expanded roles/professional practice issues. Excellent interpersonal skills. Mentorship/preceptorship skills. Extended scope of practice Skills, i.e., Ensuring the delivery of Compassion in Practice Leadership skills. To lead, inspire and motivate others to high performance by agreeing clear goals and objectives, providing support and guidance and creating opportunities for development To contribute to the development of a culture of high engagement, where staff are empowered and entrusted to provide the best services and care for patients To promote and facilitate innovation and continuous improvement to deliver better services for service users and patients Accountability for the leadership of post holders' staff / teams / departments Able to manage a ward/department in absence of ward/department manager.
