Job summary

We offer a compelling opportunity for the position of National Director for our Dose Adjustment For Normal Eating (DAFNE) program.

The ideal candidate is a confident, highly motivated, and enthusiastic strategic and operational leader. In this key role, you'll oversee all aspects of the national program, ensuring growth and providing access to a high-quality structured education program for individuals with diabetes and training for healthcare professionals.

As a proven leader, you should have a track record of strategic management, including strong financial control, and experience managing complex projects and change. Essential skills include polished interpersonal and communication skills, along with strong analytical abilities for reviewing multiple data streams to establish program performance and inform strategic development.

DAFNE, an internationally recognized structured education self-management program for adults with type 1 diabetes, is acknowledged by NICE as the gold standard. It's implemented in 110 specialist diabetes teams across the UK, Republic of Ireland, and Crown Dependencies, with additional adoption in teams in Australia/New Zealand, Kuwait, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.

The role is based at North Tyneside Hospital. Although a full-time position, we support flexible working, considering applicants who can work between 30-37.5 hours per week. We endorse locally agreed remote working, with an expectation that at least 20% of time is spent on-site.

Main duties of the job

The post holder operates at DAFNE Executive Board level, leading and accountable for the strategic, financial and operational management, continued rollout and overall success of the programme across the UK, Republic of Ireland, Crown Dependencies and overseas.

Responsible for the development and implementation of information, control processes and risk management systems to ensure full compliance with internal and external governance procedures.

DAFNE is a national leader of research into structured education and self-management. Outcomes from on-going DAFNE research have the potential to not only influence the development of DAFNE, but also other structured education programmes for long term conditions. The Director is responsible for the effective interface of DAFNE research with the national programme.

The post holder will lead and work strategically with national/local NHS bodies and key stakeholders, building effective partnerships to support implementation of the DAFNE programme and facilitation of research projects in the DAFNE portfolio in partnership with DAFNE services throughout the UK, Ireland and with international partners.

The post involves working to a high level of autonomy responding to unpredictable work patterns, achieving tight deadlines, whilst simultaneously managing other agendas. Flexibility and the ability to prioritise, moving from one task to another in an ever-changing environment is essential.
