Job summary

Northumbria Healthcare Trust (NHCT) Manufacturing and Innovation Hub came into existence through innovative necessity during the Covid pandemic in 2020. Initially manufacturing PPE for use within healthcare and recycling used PPE. Since then, the hub has expanded its product portfolio and the site has been developed to support Northumbria Healthcare Trust clinical operations and the potential future support to ICB regional services.

This is a new role which the successful applicant can mould and develop and as such, we are looking to recruit a senior manager who is an experienced manufacturing leader to develop and deliver a new strategic vision for the role and a 3-year horizon plan.

Northumbria Manufacturing Hub is a growing manufacturing service uniquely based within the NHS and your role will be to develop the business plan to ensure the business is viable and sustainable using the NHS brand.

The General Manager / Head of Manufacturing is a key part of the senior management team / NHFM Ops Board and plays a vital role in driving performance in safety, quality, productivity, delivery and cost.

The postholder will have a technical manufacturing background who can drive performance through people, utilising world leading operations management practices. Taking responsibility for Day-to-Day Operational running of the Northumbria Manufacturing and Warehouse Hub.

Main duties of the job

This is a Senior Management Role within the NHFM Team responsible for the operational running of the Northumbria Manufacturing Hub.

Northumbria Manufacturing Hub is a growing manufacturing service uniquely based within the NHS and your role will be to develop the business plan to ensure the business is viable and sustainable using the NHS brand.

The General Manager / Head of Manufacturing is a key part of the senior management team / NHFM Board and plays a vital role in driving performance in safety, quality, productivity, delivery and cost.

The postholder will have a technical manufacturing background who can drive performance through people, utilising world leading operations management practices.

Responsible for Day-to-Day Operational running of the Northumbria Manufacturing and Warehouse Hub.

A key function of the role is to deliver the operational strategy utilising Key Performance Indicator (KPI) measures that reflect the needs of the business.

Seaton Delaval is home to the headquarters of NHFM and NHS Fleet Solutions, the 40,000 sqm innovative Manufacturing & Innovation Hub creates personal protective equipment (PPE) for staff across the UK, ultimately bringing manufacturing back into the local area, and also providing an uplift to the local economy. Activities at the hub include textile manufacturing, soft furnishings re-upholstery, embroidery services and warehousing facilities.
