Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a Band 7 Physiotherapist in Stroke rehabilitation who is enthusiastic, skilled, and ready to take on the responsibility and challenges of a senior and innovative position within a busy Stroke environment. The post is part time, ideally working Monday to Friday 8:30 until 1pm, within Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will work with Principle Physiotherapist for stroke, Band 7 Physiotherapists across the stroke pathway and the stroke team at Wansbeck General Hospital.

The post holder will lead a team of Physiotherapists, on a day to day basis, providing high quality physiotherapy to stroke patients on the stroke rehabilitation unit at Wansbeck General Hospital. The role will involve daily MDT working therefore experience of working as part of a stroke MDT is essential.

The post holder will contribute to a weekend rota, working approximately 1 in 12 weekends. There is currently no on call or evening commitments as part of the role.

As the stroke service is provided across multiple sites it is essential that the post holder can travel between sites to support the wider team as required.

This post may require assessment centre and/or psychometric testing.

Main duties of the job

Successful applicants will provide leadership and day to day organisation of the in-patient stroke Physiotherapy service at Wansbeck General. The post holder will provide expert assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients following a stroke and transfer from the hyper acute stroke unit. Links with the wider team will be maintained with post holder integrating into our trust wide stroke team.

We have strong links with Northumbria Stroke team & the successful applicant must demonstrate excellent communication skills with Multidisciplinary Teams and peers. Applicants should have experience in supervision, education and training of more junior staff and be involved in student education, research and audit.

Applicants must provide evidence of continuous professional development and post graduate training related to stroke care. The post holder will be expected to work collaboratively with the senior leadership team in further service development.

  • BSC Honours degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent
  • Member of the Health Professionals Council
  • Student training qualification

Desirable

  • Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
  • Working towards Masters level or equivalent accredited courses within chosen speciality e.g. Action Research, McKenzie accredited practitioner, Injection Diploma, Continence Diploma, Accredited Respiratory Care Management.
  • Leadership training e.g. LEO/ILM
