About us
NHCT is one of the UKs most dynamic, innovative and progressive Foundation Trusts. The Trust has been named "Best place to work in 2015" at the National Patient Safety Congress and awards Ceremony. Financially, NHCT has achieved extremely strong performance despite the increasing pressure on budgets, in contrast to many other Foundation Trusts.
The trust employs 7,500 staff to serve a population of approximately 550,000 with an extensive range of acute and community health care services.
The Trust presently manages the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital (NSECH) in addition to the three acute hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed.
As part of it's pursuit of excellence, the Trust has introduced a clinically-based management structure to ensure patient care and medical interests always drive decision-making. The consultant body is both cohesive and creative and a number of senior clinicians are prominent nationally.
Job description
Job responsibilities
It is envisaged that the new appointee will provide clinics at our North Tyneside site supervised by one of the consultants, though we have capacity needs at other sites and the appointee may also have some community hospital outpatient clinic responsibility. Details will be subject to job plan negotiation after appointment. Due to the geography of the Northumbria Trust all job plans inevitably involve some travel; the Trust is keen to ensure this is minimized, particularly travel between sites on any one day.
The consultants are supported by three specialist registrars. There is also a GP vocational trainee on attachment to the department in Wansbeck. At North Tyneside there is an innovative chronic disease F2 doctor post shared with diabetes. There are 8 specialist nurses with the Rheumatology team. Dedicated Rheumatology Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Podiatry also exists at most of the sites. Young adult patients have access to dedicated Clinical Psychology.
The Rheumatology Team meets weekly on Tuesday mornings. There are monthly business meetings, therapeutics meetings and educational meetings which are held on a cross-trust basis.
There are excellent links to the Tertiary Rheumatology service which is based at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle. There are no dedicated inpatient Rheumatology beds within Northumbria.
