We are excited to be offering the opportunity to join Northumbria Healthcare Speech and Language Therapy, Whole Life Complex and Additional Needs Team.
The Complex and Additional Needs Speech and Language Therapy team is a small team who are passionate about supporting people with complex needs, their families and those working with them. We have well established and strong connections with our Health and Local Authority colleagues allowing us to work in partnership at all levels. We work jointly with our colleagues in the Adult Speech and Language Therapy team including sharing CPD and clinical support and supervision.
We are looking to recruit an innovative, caring and dynamic SLT who would like to further develop their existing skills in speech, language, communication and eating/drinking difficulties, in particular with people with learning disability and complex needs.
Main duties of the job
The post will involve working with the multi-agency Community Learning Disabilities Team and within our ALD Speech and Language Therapy team, based within the enhanced forensic positive behaviour support team. The post holder will provide communication assessments to individuals with a learning disability in the community who may have a forensic history. The successful candidate will work across North Tyneside, working into patient's homes and care settings.

Ideally the successful candidate should also have knowledge and skills in mental health/ trauma informed practices and supporting families and care settings to embed communication strategies into their daily practice. It is desirable for the successful candidate to have knowledge and skills in the assessment and management of eating and drinking difficulties to enable them to work alongside colleagues to provide care for the needs of those referred to the service.
