About us

Ward 21 is a functional mental health ward caring for patient's with complex mental health needs. It is a highly rewarding area to work in supporting patients through their recovery.

Ward 21's philosophy is "to emphasize the potential for all individuals to recover from the challenging impact from mental health problems. Recovery focused care means from the minute a patient is admitted we encourage their involvement with all aspects of their care with the aim of them returning home. This helps to empower our patient by providing independence, valuing their contribution and focusing on their strength rather than their problems. We attempt to achieve long term recovery by providing healthy living sessions, psychological support and recreational and social therapies. This collectively addresses the mental, physical and social aspects of our patient's lives. We adapt to these sessions to each individual to ensure that our care is entirely person centred throughout. As much as we promote independence our staff will provide continuous support both during and after our patient's stay to facilitate the healing process. This includes a self created recovery plan and daily maintenance plan made in collaboration with both ward and community staff thereby allowing the individual to identify triggers and early warning signs that could lead to them becoming mentally unwell. The plan also includes identified strategies which help the person to avoid crisis and readmission."
