Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust are offering an exciting opportunity to get paid whilst gaining caring experience for 4 months as a Nursing Assistant. This experience leads to a place on an MNurse (Masters) adult nursing programmes at the University of Sunderland. There are other university criteria you will need to meet to be offered a place on the MNurse programme as outlined below. Once you become a full-time student, you will not be paid a salary and is not an apprenticeship. You can remain on the staff bank following the 4-month clinical experience and continue to work in Northumbria Healthcare.
Main duties of the job
You will be assigned to a specific clinical area. You will complete full-time hours for a period of four-months. On completion of 600 clinical hours, you can continue to do bank shifts within the Trust.
To assist the qualified nursing staff in the delivery of high quality direct and indirect patient care.
To provide assistance and support to patients, carers and the multi-disciplinary team.
To maintain high clinical standards.
You will complete the "Care Certificate" within your 4 months clinical allocation by achieving all the required competencies and completing the relevant documentation.
Before you start the Nursing Assistant post what we want from you:
- You should be ready to apply to the University of Sunderland for the MNurse programme starting in April 2024
- You must already meet the academic criteria for the University of Sunderland's MNurse programme before you commence the Nursing Assistant post within Northumbria Healthcare Foundation Trust.
- You should have, no or little paid experience of caring and, you must not have already worked in direct patient care within the NHS (applicants who have experience of providing care to patients should instead apply directly to the University of Sunderland)
You must be able to work 37.5 hours each week (across a variety of shifts) as your main employment to gain the experience to support you in your application for the MNurse Programme.

Fast Track enables applicants to gain admission to the MNurse programme by providing paid nursing care experience. The MNurse entry criteria includes 600hrs caring experience, a health-related degree at 2:2 or above, or registration on another field of nursing.
