Job summary

The role requires an experienced, qualified waste & environmental professional to deliver the Trust's corporate and statutory responsibilities for all aspects of waste and environmental management. You will also support the Head of Sustainability in developing and advancing the environmental & net zero culture throughout the Trust

Main duties of the job

It is a Trustwide operational management role delivering waste & environmental initiatives which contribute to the reputation of the Trust as a leading organisation in the sustainability field.

To provide leadership, specialist advice and guidance in relation to waste & environmental management across the Trust.

To lead on the implementation of waste target setting, aligning these to the ambitions of the Trusts Green Plan, NHS Clinical Waste Strategy, HTM07-01 and the National NHS Delivering a Net Zero statutory guidance.

To assist the Trust and partners to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, codes and practice and Trust procedures and to provide technical expertise relating to waste & environmental management.

You will develop and promote procedures for the correct segregation, handling, disposal and recycling of the waste, including working with site-based teams, clinical staff, hotel services and waste producers to explain and ensure correct & compliant procedures are followed.

Lead on waste auditing across the Trust, down to ward/department level and ensure production of reports, recommending actions for improvement as well as conducting duty of care audits of our waste disposal contractors.

Investigate and promote opportunities to reduce overall cost and environmental impact of our waste activities, including better segregation, use of alternative and new technologies for waste disposal which are compliant with current legislation.

About us

This is an exciting new role in a newly established Sustainability Team within the Trust. You will lead on all aspects of waste management as well as supporting the Head of Sustainability in developing and advancing the environmental & net zero culture throughout the Trust.
