Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for you to join use as we launch our Legacy Mentor role. The role should appeal to experienced health care professionals and may also suit someone looking to retire/return, leaving a legacy in your field of practice.
You will need to demonstrate empathy and patience, be passionate about your profession and be able to provide pastoral support to others. We can all reflect on the importance of mentors and role models in our own careers, and this is an opportunity to have that kind of influence on the incoming generation as they set out on a career in health and care.
You will be supporting a team that is the right fit for you in line with your relevant experience and where you feel most comfortable to do so. You must hold a current professional registration.
You will be able to work flexibly to provide mentorship and coaching for colleagues. We will provide access to training and successful candidates will be invited by NHSE to join the national Community of Practice meetings that have been newly initiated to support the introduction of the role.

Posts will be available either as a secondment opportunity or as a fixed term contract for 1 year (due to national funding arrangements).
Main duties of the job
The main focus of this role is to help newly qualified nurses, and those in other clinical roles by imparting your knowledge, skills and experience through coaching and supporting them in the early stages of their career.
To help facilitate a positive working environment for people in their early career and provide support where possible through coaching and mentoring.
Coach newly qualified clinical professionals and/or students on placement to enhance their knowledge and skills. Provide clinical expertise on a range of projects, supporting best practice and enhancing the learning environment for all.
Liaise and work with other practice area support staff to ensure consistency across the setting and blended learning approaches to support the transfer of learning/skill attainment.
Raise the profile of the role of legacy mentors and share good practice with others, enhancing the profile of the organisation and providing support to managers.
Work as an integral member of the section to develop appropriate strategies and support for relevant staff in early career, and support retention.
