Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, forward-thinking and innovative, qualified Speech and Language Therapist to work in the field of Public Health.

This is a brand-new discipline in our profession, both stimulating and challenging.

We are looking for an inspirational therapist with a clear vision and strategic approach who can work successfully to develop and promote a paradigm shift; motivating and encouraging at each structural level.

This post may require assessment centre and/or psychometric testing.

Main duties of the job

You will be able to horizon-scan, create new ideas and solutions. Your public health leadership, expertise and population insights will ensure the Community Services Business Unit always remains ready to take up new challenges in the planning and delivery of care.

As a successful candidate, you will be instrumental in helping progress the Trust's contribution to addressing health inequalities and health improvement for patients, their families, staff and the wider population.

You will lead a defined portfolio of work, develop and support new ways of working to make prevention and equity of access, experience and outcomes part of the organisation's core business.

A high level of intellectual rigour, political awareness, negotiation, motivation skills and flexibility are required. The ability to establish and maintain effective relationships and an ability to understand other cultures and advise, challenge and advocate to enable effective working across organisational boundaries is crucial. In particular, ensuring effective collaboration with the wider system; working with Local Authorities, NHS, professional and educational bodies and the Integrated Care System to ensure a coherent and strategic approach to improving population health across the health economy.

About us

We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, in addition to our state-of-the-art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England. We also care for people in their homes and provide services from facilities in local communities such as health centres. We give people greater choice and control over their care to help them to live independently at home and avoid hospital admission where appropriate. High quality patient care is at the heart of everything we do and we strive to ensure every single patient and service user has an exceptional experience with us. We have one of the most extensive patient experience programmes of any trust in England.
