Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Consultant Hepatologist (on a full-time or part-time basis) - this is a newly created post to underpin expansion in the Trust's Gastroenterology specialty, specifically the Trust's Liver Service.Successful candidate will be encouraged to develop a special interest to complement the other members of the department and will participate in the provision of the Gastroenterology service to the population of North Tyneside and Northumberland. Applicants will have sub-specialty training and experience in Hepatology, alongside accreditation in both Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine (GIM).A multi-disciplinary team approach to Gastroenterology is actively in place across sub-specialties and we are working with our primary care colleagues to build an excellent service, and this post provides an opportunity to join an organisation in which Clinicians are at the forefront of management. Opportunities are available to participate in education and teaching, alongside clinical research.

The post will be flexibly scheduled to meet the skillsets and sub-specialty interests of the successful applicant, alongside the demands of the service. Through the acute week the work is split between dealing with emergency gastroenterology admissions and undertaking emergency Upper GI endoscopy. The overnight emergency on-call is alternated between two GI Consultants. Approximately every 14th week you will also cover the base gastroenterology ward at NTGH site from 9am-5pm with support from Gastro Middle Grade Doctors/Registrars. At all other times the job plan is devoted to elective work.A typical week would consist of 10 Programmed Activities (PAs), including a minimum allocation of 1.5 SPAs for Supporting Professional Activities. Additional SPAs will be available dependent upon service need as required.
