Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a state registered Healthcare Scientist fo who has completed or is actively undertaking their IBMS specialist portfolio. The successful applicant will take an active role in the leadership support of the Clinical Biochemistry Department within Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
You will be supporting fellow state registered Healthcare Scientists in the provision of an effective, 24/7 high quality service and will actively support the team in processing approximately 33,000 assays (over 4000 samples) per day and enable the department to play a key role in supporting allied healthcare professionals who are reliant on our service.The role will require communication of confidential urgent/abnormal results, ensuring rapid turnaround times which meet key Trust objectives, maintaining and troubleshooting equipment and initial investigations into poor analyser performance.
To support the Band 7 team leaders and departmental management team in the active management and development of colleagues within the chemical pathology department. To take an active role in developing the pathology departments Quality Management System.
Main duties of the job
Responsibility for ensuring all tests are performed according to established laboratory standard operating procedures and within agreed turnaround times.
Ensure the quality of the analytical service is maintained to UKAS ISO 15189:2022 standards.
Responsibility for ensuring safe use and maintenance of expensive, complex equipment, maintaining appropriate records.
To supervise Band 5 & Trainee Biomedical Scientists, Associate Practitioners and Medical Laboratory Assistants.
Full participation in a 24 hour shift pattern is expected. This includes working at both sites, sometimes as a lone worker
