Job summary

We are seeking an inspiring, dynamic and authentic nurse leader who shares our vision of delivering the very best patient experience and outcomes. This is an exciting opportunity to join our Surgical Matron team and help drive quality improvements in partnership with the multi-professional team within Urology.

As Matron, you will embrace compassionate leadership and act as a significantly autonomous professional clinical manager, responsible for multiple clinical services and staff. You will demonstrate a strong ability to lead and motivate teams, while supporting the Divisional Director of Quality and Nursing agenda, including patient safety and experience.

Key areas of responsibility are

- Provide visible, compassionate leadership across the Urology services

- Act as a professional clinical manager for multiple services and staff groups.

- Drive improvements in patient experience, safety and quality outcomes

- Work closely within the speciality tri to shape strategic plans for the service

- Ensure the nursing voice is strong and influential, using negotiation and persuasion skills

- Support the delivery of divisional priorities and contribute to long term service development

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will hold a valid 1st level registration with the NMC and demonstrate ambition to pursue higher-level education, incorporating research-based clinical practices into quality improvement initiatives.

We are seeking a Matron who is compassionate, transformational and inclusive with a strong commitment to helping the division develop and strengthen.

The Matron will play a key role in empowering staff to feel autonomous and competent through shared governance and collaborative decision-making. They will ensure delivery of clinical, quality, safety, financial, and workforce objectives across all of their service lines, with an focus on clinical outcomes, efficiency and service reporting.

3. Provide professional leadership to nurses, midwives and managers, acting as a role model within the Service lines, Division and the Trust ensuring that competence in managerial and clinical practice is both developed and maintained.

4. Provide assurance to the Divisional Director of Quality and Nursing that there is continuous improvement in the delivery of clinical services and are tailored to the needs of the patients.

5. Provide clear clinical leadership for nursing and take responsibility and accountability for specific clinical services, wards and departments balancing these with the overall Trust responsibilities

6. Work in partnership and collaboration with other Matrons, Service Directors and General Managers within the Division, leading on clinical governance and risk agendas for specific services, ensuring dovetailing of strategic and operational roles and responsibilities.

7. Provide nursing leadership, set and maintain professional nursing standards, provide professional nursing advice and direction to the Specialty Director, General Manager and to other colleagues within the Division.
