Job summary
The Trust provides acute hospital services from two large district general hospitals, Cheltenham General Hospital and Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. Gloucestershire Hospitals is the major provider of secondary care services in the area.
Theatres comprises of 16 theatres in Gloucester and 14 in Cheltenham. we specialise in Upper GI, Colorectal, Breast, Urology, Vascular, Head and Neck, Orthopaedic , Obstetric and Emergencies. We are very proud of the service we provide. We aim to maintain high quality care by continuing to employ motivated and enthusiastic healthcare assistants who will work alongside the multi-disciplinary team to contribute to the delivery of care to acutely ill patients and their families.

Main duties of the job
As a HCA working within the theatre setting, the expectation is that, with adequate training, supervision and assessment, you will be able to;
- To participate as a member of the multidisciplinary team providing the highest standard of patient care
- Undertake specific delegated tasks following the appropriate training and competency level
- To adhere to all Trust policies and procedures
- To adhere to trust guidelines on infection control
- To assist scrub staff in theatres and the multidisciplinary team, with surgical equipment required.
- To undertake clinical activities, following training and assessment, as directed by the Registered Nurse
-To be an advocate for your patient, and provide exceptional care during their theatre visit.

- The post holder, under supervision, will assist the multidisciplinary team in delivering individualised planned patient care in a safe and healthy environment which promotes equality for all individuals
- Active participation in the preparation of theatres and assisting the scrub practitioner in the preparation of sterile surgical equipment
- Ability to interact with people at all levels and work effectively as a team member
- To communicate effectively, especially where patient ability to do so is compromised and there are barriers to understanding e.g. hearing difficulties, using tact and reassurance
- Under guidance, deliver safe patient care within a challenging and changing clinical environment, using equipment and resources safely and as appropriate
- Take an active role in theatre decontamination in line with infection control policies
- Discretion and understanding of confidentiality and data protection
- Understand and adhere to Trust Policies and Procedures
- Provide advice and guidance within own sphere of knowledge to students and other team members
- To contribute to safe and timely patient transfer process within and out of theatres

- After suitable training be able to respond to change in the patients signs and condition, especially when on patient transfer duties
