This is an exciting opportunity to work within the outpatient setting on Medical Day unit currently based at CGH.
MDU is an out-patient department which deals with various intravenous infusions, diagnostic endocrine tests, and blood transfusions.
We are looking to recruit a band 6 sister / charge nurse to work 37.5 hours a week in permanent contract . The hours are currently 07.00- 17.00 hrs. Monday to Saturday, we are closed on Sundays and bank holidays

The Matron for Medical Day Unit is Catherine Matthews. Unit Manager is Bijimol Joseph, The General Manager is Lisa Dockley and Jo Knick Enberg is the Deputy General Manager.
The Medical Day Unit is part of the Medical Division. The Chief of Service is Dr Abigail Tomlins, Chantal Baker is the Deputy Divisional Director of Quality & Nursing and Kelly Matthews is the Divisional Director of Operations.

Main duties of the job
Clinical leadership and patient care
- Act as shift coordinator, taking responsibility for the safe and effective running of the Medical Day Unit
- Lead and manage clinical emergencies, including anaphylaxis and deteriorating patients
- Act as a clinical resource and role model for junior nurses, Band 3 technicians, students, and bank staff
Team Leadership and Supervision
- Provide day-to-day leadership, supervision, and support to the multidisciplinary team
- Support induction, training, and competency development of staff
- Promote a positive, inclusive, and supportive working environment
Operational Management
- Coordinate patient flow, appointment scheduling, and capacity management
- Ensure effective use of resources, including equipment and stock
- Support service delivery during periods of high demand or reduced staffing
Governance, Quality, and Safety
- Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control standards
- Participate in audits, incident reporting, and investigations
- Support implementation of action plans following incidents or complaints
Communication and Collaboration
- Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, and carers to support informed decision-making
- Liaise closely with consultants, specialist nurses, pharmacy, outpatient services, and wards

- Maintain professional registration and revalidation requirements

The Band 6 Sister / Charge Nurse will provide clinical leadership and operational management within the Medical Day Unit, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and high-quality patient-centred care. The post holder will support the day-to-day running of the unit, lead the nursing team, and contribute to service development, governance, and workforce management.
The role requires strong leadership, advanced clinical skills relevant to outpatient infusion services, and the ability to coordinate care in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Patient Care

- Ensure the safe administration ofintravenous infusions, blood products, and diagnostic test
- Maintain oversight of patients receiving complex treatments and manage adverse reactions, including anaphylaxis.

- Promote a calm, reassuring environment for patients attending for both one-off and long-term treatments.
