Job summary

The College Tutor is responsible, within their defined area, for overseeing the delivery of the training programme to all Post-graduate Medical Trainees. This is an exciting time to play a pivotal role in implementing Internal Medical Training for Physicians in the organisiation and acting as trust ambassador for RCP, London

The Tutor should ensure a learning environment at departmental level across all medical specialties which is challenging, supportive and, where appropriate, multi-professional.

The Tutor should be appointed jointly by the Trust, Deanery and Royal College, managerially, whilst accountable to the Director of Medical Education (DME), with professional responsibility to Training Programme Director, Severn Deanery, and the College.

This role is a 3-year tenure and will be reviewed annually via appraisal by the DME

Main duties of the job

  • To ensure that the educational, pastoral & career planning needs of all trainees in your specialty department are being addressed.
  • To implement, monitor and improve the specialty training programmes in the department in conjunction with the DME & the Deanery
  • Where appropriate to work with the relevant Foundation, Core Programme & GP tutors to ensure the specialty placement fulfils the programme requirements.
  • To represent their specialty area at training committees both internally and externally including MEB, deanery and College Meetings, as required
  • To ensure, along with the DME, that all those involved in training and assessing trainees have received appropriate training.
  • To manage trainee performance issues in line with NACT UK guidelines, Trust policies and in conjunction with the DME and ES/CS
  • To ensure, in conjunction with the Clinical Director, that trainees receive appropriate departmental induction and are competent to practice prior to starting clinical.
  • Continually improve the teaching programme in terms of implementation of IM curriculum
  • Where appropriate to represent the College/Specialty body in the workplace and vice versa

  • Contribution to the Specialty Teaching on the Foundation, Core as well as Specialty programmes
  • Support Trainees during the critical stage of their careers including completion of all 3 parts of MRCP exam.
  • Departmental Induction occurring in the specialty, which is evaluated, and attendance recorded.
  • Attendance at Local and Deanery Education Meetings as appropriate
  • Involvement in Recruitment, Assessment and Annual Quality Review Processes
  • Recording of information required by local, regional, and national quality control processes and the provision of a report as necessary.

  • GMC full registration
  • Completed necessary ES training and be a GMC recognised supervisor.

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification in education
