Infection Prevention and Control Nurse, Band 6

We are excited to announce we are looking to recruit a band 6 infection prevention and control Nurse on a fixed term contract to cover Maternity leave. The successful candidate will participate in the prevention and control of healthcare associated infection within Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (GHNHSFT).They will work closely with other team members across the One Gloucestershire System in the ongoing development and implementation of infection control practice in line with both Trust and national requirements.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, proactive and motivated Nurse. Joining the team will provide the successful candidate the opportunity to develop expert skills and knowledge related to the prevention of infection and underpinning Microbiology. Opportunities to undertake post graduate study, research, quality improvement will also be offered.

Main duties of the job

You will inspire and motivate others, and act as a role model and a professional source of advice for others.

A key part of the role will be to use evidenced based IPC to challenge and innovate new practice to ensure safe service delivery. To support our staff to maintain high standards of IPC, deliver infection prevention programmes and optimise management and treatment of patients with infections. The IPCN will ensure that IPC remains a highly visible service and an integral part of a robust patient safety programme.

You will be a Nurse registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. The candidates will have knowledge of current issues relating to IPC and excellent communication and interpersonal. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an understanding of audit and quality improvement. They will be able to prioritise their own workload; working independently and as a team.

The successful candidate will be working in the Infection Prevention and Control team. The team is made up of Band 6 & 7 Nurses, a Lead Nurse for IPC and AMS, Infection Control Doctors, Surgical site surveillance team and Antimicrobial Pharmacists. Band 6 IPCNs are allocated mentors and supported by band 7 Nurses to support their development.

The IPCT have a vision of no preventable infection by delivering safe care. The team foster an environment of support, innovation & work to ensure that everything is done with the patient in mind. The team are friendly and inclusive.
