Job summary
An exciting opportunity has opened up for Healthcare Support Worker to join our team within paediatric planned services. Make a move to our paediatric unit to make a difference to the experience of children, young people and families in Gloucestershire.
Healthcare Support Workers are a vital part of our team and we have a variety of in-house training courses to support your development. We provide an induction period delivered by our paediatric professional development team. We offer funded places on a variety of continuing professional development courses, including enhanced care skills, CHCSW development programme and completion of the care certificate as well as the opportunity to progress to the Nurse Associate programme.
As a Healthcare support worker within planned services, you will be expected to deliver compassionate, safe, high quality, care for children of all ages within our large unit. Planned services covers paediatric outpatients in Gloucester and Cheltenham and also the Paediatric Day Unit which is based within the children's centre in Gloucester. Alongside the planned services at Gloucester there is the inpatient children's ward.

Main duties of the job
You should be enthusiastic, motivated with good interpersonal skills and able to problem solve and prioritise during periods of pressure.
Some of the key tasks and responsibilities of a Healthcare Support worker in planned services;
- Assist in the efficient running of outpatient clinics; Managing clinic lists, acting as a chaperone for patients as requested, obtain any observations or tests required prior to a patients appointment.
- Receive , transmit and store information relating to the delivery of patient care.
- Undertake clinical activities such as collecting and testing urine, recording and reporting physical observations.
- Complete training for venepuncture and cannulation to become competent to run a venepuncture clinic.
- Work alongside the nursing staff in the day unit to prepare patients for theatre and assist with observations post op.

The Children's Centre is a purpose-built, modern unit which has recently been rated as 'Good' by the Care Quality Commission. The Centre offers a unique environment for nursing professionals to develop their paediatric experience across a range of areas: Inpatients, Paediatric Assessment Unit, High Dependency unit, Day unit, oncology shared care services and outpatients.
