Job summary

The Urology service in Gloucestershire is a large and busy department. The service is predominantly based at Cheltenham General Hospital (CGH). Outpatient services and day case surgery are offered at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, Stroud and Cirencester Hospitals.

Urological in-patient care is provided on a dedicated ward at Cheltenham General Hospital (Tivoli) and the department have their own specialised theatres.

We have both an Xi dual console with TRUMP table and X davinci robots, in addition we have state of the art Olympus and Storz urological equipment, all of which has been upgraded in the last 18 months. A dedicated urological outpatient facility is planned to open this year with fixed site lithotripter, x4 dedicated procedure rooms and a urology assessment unit (SDEC).

In addition to General Urological services the Consultant team offer:

Uro-oncology Surgery

Robotic Surgery

Laparoscopic Surgery

Endo-urology Surgery

Paediatric urology Surgery

Basic Andrology

Main duties of the job

This is a fixed term 12 month locum appointment to the Urology Department in the Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will join a centralised team of 13 Consultant Urologists who provide comprehensive general and specialist urological care to the population of Gloucestershire.We are seeking to appoint a Consultant with an interest in Renal Cancer. The candidate should be confident in radical nephrectomy and have experience of partial nephrectomy. The post holder should have attended a dedicated fellowship for robot assisted surgery.

This is a full-time post. However, any candidate who is unable, for personal reasons, to work full time will still be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis. Job share applicants are also welcome.
