Job summary
The post holder will provide strategic oversight and leadership for all aspects of the Trust's clinical research, innovation and genomics activities, including governance, regulatory compliance, contracting, finance, business development, and the operational delivery of the Trust's research, innovation and genomics strategy. This role will ensure that research services are developed, maintained, and delivered to the highest standards, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence that supports the Trust's core mission and strategic priorities.
Working closely with the Medical Director, the Associate Medical Director for RIG will lead the development and implementation of integrated strategies, systems, and processes for research, innovation, and genomics, ensuring these are harmonised across the Trust. The RIG departments include the Trust's Research Delivery Teams, Research Professional Services, Gloucestershire Research and Education Group, Biophotonics Research Unit, research and innovation governance, research study applications, grant submissions and study sponsorships.
Main duties of the job
Lead the development of high-quality research proposals to secure funding (eg, NIHR grants, MRC grants, collaborative partnerships)
- Manage budgets, grants, and resources to support research initiatives effectively, and ensure the department meets financial targets and obligations.
- Oversee delivery of contracts, including reporting requirements and to manage resource allocation systems for income
- Develop the Trust's research capacity, portfolio and income.
- Create and execute a strategic vision for research, innovation, and genomics initiatives aligned with the Trust's goals
- Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of research and innovation projects
- Develop key relationships with research and innovation sponsors, networks, and clinical research partners from academic and commercial units.
- Maximise the opportunities available for the benefit of our population and staff by establishing mutually beneficial relationships with industry and innovation partners.
- Foster and nurture links with consumer organisations to ensure research is co-produced and driven by the needs of the population we serve.
- To report to Trust Board, Hospital Executive Committees, NIHR, Regional Research Delivery Network (RRDN) and other appropriate senior meetings to feedback on the progress of RIG and NIHR activity / performance.
- Influence and promote the RIG agenda at local, regional and national research meetings to ensure the Trust is a leader in RIG policy and performance.
