Job summary
These fixed term posts enable established Senior Trust Appraisers to deliver an additional 5 appraisals annually in addition to the 10 appraisals they will already be delivering. The posts are open to current Senior Medical Appraisers who have completed more than 10 appraisals within this Trust and have participated fully in the CPD and quality assurance activity associated with the roles.
The posts attract a payment of 0.25PA which is locally negotiated into their agreed job plan.
Full participation in CPD to support the role - attendance at two local Appraiser Support Groups per year and participation in the quality assurance system for feedback and performance review is required.
Main duties of the job
Understand the purposes of appraisal and revalidation and the role of appraisal in the revalidation of a doctor.
Facilitate a supportive appraisal conversation which explores the wellbeing of the doctor and encourages reflection.
Understand the wider operations of Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and other healthcare systems, and relate this to the context within which the appraisee is working.
Have a sufficient understanding of the principles of adult education to inform the appraisal discussion and facilitate personal and professional development.
Develop, maintain and apply skills in assessing the portfolio of supporting information with rigor and consistency.
Judge whether the supporting information shows that the appraisee has provided sufficient evidence to support their revalidation decision.
Judge whether there is a patient safety issue or emerging performance concern and act appropriately.
Judge whether the appraisee has appropriately participated in their appraisal, including their facility to reflect.
Assess fulfilment of previous years PDP objectives and confirm that the current PDP arises from the appraisal discussion.
