Job summary

We are looking for new and enthusiastic appraisers to join our established team. This is a great opportunity for consultants and SAS/staff grade doctors to develop their skills and promote cross directorate understanding and support. Applicants should have at least three years' experience of appraisal and be motivated to contribute to the development of the trust appraisal process. Full training and support will be provided. Appraisers are expected to attend two appraiser support groups per year, participate in quality assurance processes and have an annual review of their performance.

Main duties of the job

Main duties of the job

Appraisers are expected to undertake 10 appraisals per year, under the direction of the Appraisal Lead and the revalidation and appraisal team.

Appraisers are required to complete a Medical Appraisal training course, and be willing to undertake regular updates as required. They are expected to attend two Appraiser Support Groups per year participate in quality assurance processes and have an annual review of their performance.

Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is committed to providing a system to support annual appraisal for all staff. Senior Medical Staff are required to participate in an annual appraisal with an appropriately trained appraiser to fulfil the GMC requirements for revalidation.

Knowledge of the legislation and guidance on equality and diversity, bullying and harassment, data protection and confidentiality

An openness to feedback and willingness to develop their appraisal style in response to this feedback

Ability to use the available tools and resources to support appraisal and revalidation

Completion of the post appraisal documentation in line with local and national guidance to a high standard and within an acceptable timeframe ( 28 days)

Judge whether the supporting information shows that the appraisee has provided sufficient evidence to support their revalidation decision.

Judge whether there is a patient safety issue or emerging performance concern and act appropriately.

Judge whether the appraisee has appropriately participated in their appraisal, including their facility to reflect.

  • Up to date with Mandatory Training including Equality and Diversity training

Experience

  • Experience of applying principles of education and/or quality improvement activity
