Job summary

We have a unique new opportunity for you to join our therapy team as an Activity Coordinator (12-month Fixed-Term).

Do you have a passion for providing dedicated, person-centred care? We have roles available on a 12-month fixed-term basis as part of an innovative project aimed at enhancing care for individuals with additional interaction needs.

We're looking for individuals who are compassionate and adaptable who thrive in a more focused care environment, working with a small number of patients or providing 1:1 support. Your role will involve working with young adults, individuals with learning disabilities or autism, as well as older adults with dementia or delirium.

Help to improve the experience for our patients. In this role, you will be matched with patients daily, adapting your approach to meet their specific needs and interests, while creatively engaging with patients to ensure they are comfortable.

Main duties of the job

In line with the Trust Vision to provide the "Best Care for Everyone..."

To use the principles of Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy in an integrated and client-centred way to provide meaningful activity to individuals through provision of a varied and flexible programme of therapeutic social and recreational activities.

To promote social interaction and reduce effects of deconditioning by facilitating meaningful activities within agreed limitations through exercise, physical modalities and the use of occupation, reporting back outcome of delegated tasks to the registered practitioner.

To provide a weekly programme of activities for patients who are recovering from acute illness, but are not yet able to be discharged.

  • To support the teams with administration, clerical and housekeeping duties.

Have no management or budget responsibilities.

Engage in regular formal supervision and appraisal.

Not always be directly supervised, on a day-to-day basis, but has access (in person or by telephone) to a registered clinician at all times.

Assume responsibility for the day-to-day running of therapeutic social and recreational activities for individuals and groups, with the aim of supporting their health and well-being and their recovery from illness e.g., with routine exercise, walks around the grounds, art and craft projects and leisure activities.

  • Have skills adapting activities to meet the needs of individuals who require a low stimulation environment and provide a calm, de-escalating manner at all times.
  • Will work with small ward-based groups to promote engagement in low stimulus activities e.g., coffee morning, social interactions and creative activities.

Qualifications

Essential

  • GCSE English and Maths at grade 4/C

Desirable

  • A qualification at Level 2 and above for Health and/or Social Care that is nationally recognised. This could be an NVQ, BTEC, Apprenticeship or equivalent international qualification in healthcare.

Experience

Essential

  • Relevant experience in health or social care, or in physiotherapy or occupational therapy working in the NHS or other care setting in the UK

Desirable

  • Experience (through placement or employment) of working in an acute clinical environment

Knowledge

Essential

  • Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and non-verbal and written when interacting with staff, patients, relatives and carers
  • Form professional relationships with clients who may need motivating and encouraging, in a way that respects their views, autonomy and culture.
  • Self-motivated, takes initiative and able to prioritise own workload; and work flexibly in response to the changing demands of the service.
  • Good knowledge of at least one craft or creative skill that can be taught to others e.g., card making, art, music, needlework skills

  • Demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning, with self-awareness of own knowledge and learning needs and ability to seek support appropriately.
