Job summary

The role of Lung Cancer Nurse Specialist is a great opportunity to develop your clinical and professional practice along with leadership and management experience. Excellent communication skills and self-awareness are required for your own and others well-being. The post holder will be an effective core member of the lung cancer Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) within Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, acting as an expert practitioner within the lung cancer team demonstrating highly developed specialist knowledge in the management of patients with thoracic cancers and their physical and emotional care. This will include supporting patients throughout their pathway from investigations through their treatments, oncology care pathways and post treatment including guiding through end-of-life care.

The successful candidate will have the ability to manage complex patients and their complex needs. This will ensure patients are able to make informed decisions about the treatments offered to them. You will be a highly skilled practitioner acting as a specialist resource to support the team. The post holder will also contribute to lung cancer clinics, day to day patient management and support changes to our services within the medicine division and wider developments within Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Main duties of the job

- Provide high quality patient care, delivery and maintaining standards in accordance with UK law, the NMC, and Trust guidelines, and able to meet the revalidation requirements

- Have relevant knowledge to be able to assist with the co-ordination of staff training to ensure a high professional standard in all aspects of patient care

- To effectively manage own time and that of junior staff and students in a busy environment

- Excellent organisational, line management, interpersonal and leadership skills

- Knowledge of clinical governance, policy, procedure and quality assurance frameworks

- The post holder is responsible for working within the Lung cancer team to provide expert evidence-based practice to meet the holistic needs of patients.

- They will have knowledge of thoracic cancer treatment pathways to advise and guide patients throughout the pathway.

- As part of the future plans for the lung cancer service, the post holder will autonomously run nurse led clinics as part of the clinical timetable

- The role will provide an interface between medical and nursing disciplines whilst developing and supporting nursing practice

- Communicate effectively with patients, carers, relatives and all members of the multidisciplinary team

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join the Lung Cancer Nurse Specialist team at Gloucester Royal NHS Trust.

The successful candidate will work as part of our multi-disciplinary team ensuring the delivery of specialist information, advice and support to a consistently high quality.

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, experienced and motivated nurse with excellent organisation and communication skills. It would be essential for the successful candidate to have knowledge and experience of lung cancer.

You would be joining a pro active and forward thinking team that prides itself on its ability to deliver individualised compassionate care for patients and relatives and also for its own team.

The team undertake nurse led clinics including a nurse led thoracic surgical follow up clinic, this model is being adopted throughout lung cancer nursing teams in the Gloucester royal hospital.
