Paeds Endocrine Nurse Specialist, Band 6 (15 hours)
Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join us as a Paediatric Endocrine Specialist Nurse to provide a comprehensive, holistic and developmental approach to endocrine care from infancy to adolescence, within the acute and community setting. This is an exciting time as we expand our existing team in order to develop an already outstanding service for the families of Gloucestershire.
The team care for children and their families in Gloucestershire with a wide range of endocrine disorders including growth hormone deficiency, thyroid disorders, adrenal insufficiency and many more. This is an incredibly varied role - no two days are the same.
The new team member will act as an expert resource to children and families, and other professionals caring for them, providing appropriate information, education and training for children, families and health professionals
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will use advanced skills and expert knowledge to undertake assessment of physical, psychological and emotional needs of children with endocrine conditions, within acute and home environments.
Dynamic function tests are carried out by the Paediatric Endocrine nursing team. We have a varied caseload of patients including approximately 100 children in the county on growth hormone treatment.
To have access to roadworthy transport, to be able to travel to multiple locations within a working day which is likely to be covering a large geographical rural area
There will be opportunities to undertake further endocrine courses at Level 6/7 and attend national paediatric endocrine meetings.
We are committed to the continuing professional development of our team and will provide you with learning and development opportunities as part of your role.
There is an expectation that the post holder will start to undertake the non-medical prescribing course within the first 12 months of being in post, if not already in possession of this qualification.

- Act as a expert resource for patients, parents, schools, nurserys and other community settings as well as for medical staff.
- Support the organisation and development of health care education packages for children and families, nurseries, schools and respite care facilities.
- Reviewing and monitoring of blood results
- Ensure the delivery of accurate research based information, for the administration of clinical procedures/treatments within the specialist area, e.g. NICE guidelines for Growth Hormone Treatment for children with Growth Hormone Deficiency.
-Training and education
-Support the development of nursing policy, protocols and guidelines within defined speciality, ensuring consistency with National and International standards and current research, e.g. Policy for the Management of Congenital Hypothroidism and Protocols for Hormone Provocation Tests.
To deliver safe care within a challenging and changing clinical environment, using equipment and resources safely and as appropriate.
