Clinical Specialist - Acute Medical Unit (AMU), Band 7 (18.75 hours a week)

We are excited to be able to advertise an 18.75hour Clinical Specialist Therapist post in our Acute Medical Unit (AMU) team at Gloucester Royal Hospital. This role will work alongside the existing 18.75hr Clinical Specialist within the team.

Our AMU is a busy assessment unit and the post holder will be required to have sound clinical reasoning and be able to manage patients with diverse and/or complex presentations/multi-pathologies. They will need to be able to work in a fast paced environment and be able to respond to the changing priorities/dynamic nature of the role. Experience in mentoring and managing staff within an integrated therapy team is essential.

The AMU at GHNHST has a strong multidisciplinary team of which the integrated therapy team is a valued and integral part. The applicant will be expected to be proactive in continuing to develop and progress the therapy service, and adapt flexibly to the needs of the trust.

Main duties of the job

- To operationally manage Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy staff working within AMU, including supervision, annual appraisal, training and general support.

- To deal with issues relating to performance management (in consultation with Human resources and the Lead Therapist) to effectively manage staff within the clinical team.

- The post holder will ensure effective stock control and use of resources to support budget management. This includes reviewing staff resources and skill mix to meet service need. The post holder assumes responsibility for the day to day management of the clinical area.

-To maintain a clinical commitment that accounts for a minimum of 50% of contracted hours and to be present clinically in the department, during clinical hours.

When performing on- call duties, staff must be available on the ward within 45 minutes of the call. * For staff living more than 45 minutes from the hospital, a designated on- call room for overnight stay is available in GRH and is free of charge. This room can be used by staff at both sites
