Fertility Nurse Specialist, Band 6- Gynaecology (30 hours a week)
We have a new exciting opportunity to join our multidisciplinary team as Fertility Specialist Nurse at the Cotswold Fertility Unit (CFU).
Provide comprehensive information and advice on our treatments, offer emotional support, and demonstrate excellent communication skills as well as the opportunity to deputise for the Nurse Manager. Coordinate treatment cycle plans, guide patients in self-administering fertility medications, and deliver expert advice and support throughout the assisted conception process.
This role offers potential for professional development, including a four-week training program at the Oxford Fertility Unit, with assistance provided for travel costs.
This role is part-time, requiring 30 hours per week, with shift patterns Monday to Friday. If you are passionate about advancing your fertility care experience, we would love to hear from you.
Main duties of the job
Assist in daily running of fertility clinic, co-ordinating treatment cycle plans.
Coach patients to self-administer fertility drugs and obtain consent for treatment.
Provide information and advice on treatment and emotional support to patients face to face and over the telephone.
Perform venepuncture
Perform ultrasound scans for follicle tracking, baseline assessments and early pregnancy assessment.
Compliance to legislative and organisational codes of practice.

Cotswold Fertility Unit (CFU) is consistently one of the top satellite Fertility Units in the UK offering a full range of fertility services, including IVF and ICSI treatments to thousands of NHS and self-funded patients wanting to have a baby. The Cotswold Fertility Unit is based in Cheltenham but provides a county wide satellite service in liaison with Oxford, Bristol and Cardiff.
The team is highly experienced in IVF and the close links with other main units mean patients can expect to receive the same high level of care whether they choose to have their appointments in a satellite Centre or in the main unit.
The post is based within The Cotswold Fertility Unit currently at Lansdown Lodge, Cheltenham and Cheltenham General Hospital, but will require working across site at Gloucester Royal .

Monitor and support patients throughout their Fertility treatment.
Develop specialist skills and knowledge in fertility treatments. Provide education and emotional support to patients undergoing fertility treatment.
Assess patients, plan and implement care and provide specialist fertility support and advice about IVF and other treatments.
Perform ultrasound scanning to include follicular tracking, early pregnancy, baseline assessment scans and HyCosy Clinic and symptom management.
Work within the HFEA Code of Practice, NMC Code of Practice and work to performance standards set for Band 5 / 6 Nurses within Gloucester Hospitals Trust.
Refer to the multidisciplinary team or outside agencies for advice and support as appropriate.
Participate in data collection required by the Fertility Unit for statistics required by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority.
To be a highly skilled clinical expert with specialised knowledge in caring for patients with complex needs
Perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the relevant legislation, in particular the Human Fertilisation & Embryology Act(1990), the Code of Practice (8th Edition) 2008 and Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) code of Professional Conduct
Analytical and judgemental skills: required for assessment of patients, planning and implementation of care and provide specialist fertility support and advice about IVF and other treatments.
Promote the Fertility Unit and improve communication by liaising with other departments within the hospital and other agencies effectively and providing information/teaching session as appropriate.
In consultation with the multidisciplinary team, encourage innovation, research based practice and evaluation of new techniques within the Cotswold Fertility Clinic
Liaise with fertility network support groups.
Promote health education within the unit and take shared responsibility for ensuring an adequate supply of information leaflets for patients.
Be responsible for own professional development and the need to learn new skills and acquire new knowledge within this specialised department, ensuring that you keep up to date with current issues. To ask for advice and support as required.
