Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Healthcare Assistant to join our kind and compassionate team on the diabetes and endocrinology ward.

We are looking for organised, flexible staff that can prioritize and manage their time well. Individuals will desirably hold a care certificate or be motivated to complete this in role and to be part of an innovative multidisciplinary team to help us deliver safe, effective high quality patient care.Ideally, we are looking for someone with experience in an acute ward environment, however this is not essential.

Diabetes and endocrinology is an exciting and rewarding specialty. Within this role, you will have many opportunities to enhance your clinical skills with support from the multidisciplinary team which include pressure ulcer treatment and prevention, how to take clinical observations and how to recognize a deteriorating patient.

You will also be expected to work collaboratively by taking part in link roles within the unit to help enhance patient care and support quality improvement.

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who is looking to develop their skills and knowledge of diabetes and endocrinology.

Working Pattern: Days and nights throughout the week including bank holidays

Main duties of the job

As a successful candidate, you can look forward to working within a friendly and supportive environment where your training and education will prioritized . You will be offered 4 weeks initial supernumerary status and supported with mentors and structured learning plan. In doing so you will be be able to confidently and competently carry out your role.

As a Healthcare Assistant, you will be involved in undertaking a variety of tasks with support from your registered nurse. These include but are not limited to;

- You will play an essential role in supporting the delivery of the highest standard of quality care to our patients, working alongside registered nurses and other healthcare professionals

- Your role will include providing holistic patient centred care which includes personal care, clinical observations, ensuring patients nutrition and hydration are maintained and that records are accurate.

- Within your role you will be required to use Electronic Patient Record system daily to record patient care. Here, you will be required to record clinical observations, skin bundles, fluid balance and food charts.

- As this is a bedside role, you will be required to provide excellent interpersonal skills between patients, their families and the multidisciplinary team. All staff must adhere to the duty of confidentiality and candor in this role.

The diabetes and endocrinology ward is a 28 Bedded Ward which specialises in diabetes and endocrinology as well as taking general medical patients. We work as part of a multidisciplinary team who strive to deliver a high standard of care to patients and their families.
