Job summary

The Department of Clinical Neurophysiology based at the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital requires a permanent specialist practitioner.

We are looking for a highly qualified, experienced and motivated specialist practitioner to join our very busy Neurophysiology team.

The successful applicant will hold Masters level qualification in Neurophysiology and have significant post graduate experience. They will need to have extensive experience within clinical neurophysiology across a wide range of specialist procedures. They must be registered with RCCP and a member of the professional body ANS. There is a requirement for training ability and supervision of team members and also provide guidance and support where needed. The candidate must be prepared to travel to Cheltenham General Hospital where some procedures are carried out.

This is a full time position of 37.5 hrs.

Main duties of the job

Ability to perform a range of highly specialised Neurophysiological investigations and/or to have the highest level of specialist skills and knowledge within the relevant field.

Able to interpret highly specialist neurophysiological investigations, results and patient conditions.

Must have sensitive understanding of patients who may be suffering from neurological and/or psychiatric disorders

About us

The clinical staffing within the department primarily consists of clinical physiologists and consultants performing a full range of electro-diagnostic tests. The department is very busy and offers a very high standard of service.

Job description

Job responsibilities

- Perform all Neurophysiology procedures either independently or collaboratively as appropriate, to the highest professional standard.

- Interpret all tests with complete autonomy (there is no computer analysis for these tests it must all be done by eye), give detailed explanations to Consultants, Doctors and Surgeons from a wide discipline field.

- Write detailed reports on all tests performed ensuring their accuracy.

- Plan and perform high quality recordings of highly specialised and complex test procedures including - EEG / sleep deprived EEG / portable EEG ITU, NICU, wards / ambulatory EEG / VER / SSEP / nerve conduction studies CTS, ulnar, peripheral screen (these tests are not performed by any other department in the County)

- Obtain the cooperation, consent and maintain the dignity and rights of a wide range of patients and their relatives.

- Intervene / support other members of staff in challenging situations.

- Administer first aid if it becomes necessary. Aid the recovery of post ictal patients. Facilitate the admission of patients, early clinic returns if appropriate with complete autonomy.

- Prioritise incoming referrals to ensure that those patients with the greatest clinical needs are done at the earliest opportunity.
