Trainee Mammography Associate, Band 4- Breast Screening (30 hours a week)
As a member of our team, you will help deliver highly skilled patient focused care within the Breast Imaging Service throughout Gloucestershire.
The post exists to provide training to become a Mammography Associate. Both internal and external training will be provided and successful completion of this will enable the post holder to practice as a competent Assistant Practitioner.
The post holder will perform supervised mammography examinations in accordance with current departmental guidelines, policies and protocols, while providing a high level of patient care. The post holder will be able to produce good quality diagnostic images while safely using highly complex technical mammography equipment. The post holder will work in the main breast imaging department and across mobile sites throughout the county.
Other duties include providing a wide range of clinical, technical and administrative support within the breast imaging department.
Due to the nature of the work, mammography posts have a gender protected character. This is a genuine occupational requirement and as a result this post is exempt under Schedule 9; Part1 of the Equality Act 2010 and therefore only female applicants over 18 should apply.
Main duties of the job
The role of the Mammography Associate is to provide a specific x-ray examination service in accordance with a specific scope of practice to a closely specified client group. You will work under the direct supervision of a registered Specialist Mammographer at Thirlestaine Breast Centre and on the mobile units.
Other duties will include, clerical duties as per departmental need, routine QA equipment testing, assisting and supporting colleagues and patients throughout clinical and radiological procedures, general housekeeping and infection control tasks.
This role is for 30 hours per week over 4 days (7.5 hours per day).

The breast imaging department provides both a symptomatic and screening service.
The symptomatic breast imaging service is for those requiring diagnosis, treatment and follow-up appointments throughout Gloucestershire.
The breast screening service offers appointments to all women between the ages of 50-71 who are registered with a GP practice. In Gloucestershire we undertake in the region of 30,000 examinations per annum, with a screening population of over 100,000 women. Our breast screening service also operates two mobile units which currently move throughout eight locations within Gloucestershire, to which you will be required to drive to on a rotational basis.
In this role you will work alongside our experienced breast care and breast imaging teams, participating in both screening and symptomatic clinics. You will also work within our family history, follow-up and assessment clinics.

To perform mammography examinations in accordance with current national and departmental guidelines policies and protocols
To perform mammography with precision, speed and of a high technical standard with radiation dose kept as low as reasonably achievable at Thirlestaine Breast Centre and on the Mobile Units located within Gloucestershire
To be responsible for safe and efficient use of expensive and highly complex technical equipment
Manage workload under appropriate clinical supervision
Manage workload under the supervision of a Radiographer Specialist Mammographer and liaise with clerical and clinical staff
To work flexible hours as the service needs demand
Work at main breast centre and on the 2 mobile units located throughout Gloucestershire under supervision of a senior radiographer
Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Aptitude Required
One year work experience in the NHS or other healthcare setting is desirable
Have a confident approach and mature outlook
Demonstrate excellent communication skills (face to face/ telephone)
Have basic IT skills in order to enter and record patient data correctly on NBSS/CRIS etc
Show initiative and have appropriate organisational and decision-making skills within a supervised environment Provide a high standard of patient care throughout imaging investigations in accordance with instructions and training received showing a sympathetic and caring approach to patientsBe able to multitask and prioritise key tasks
Have good interpersonal and teamworking skills. Postholder will have contact and working relationships with clients/patients/public, a wide variety of staff, including all breast imaging and breast care personnel, medical staff, nurses, other healthcare professionals, support staff, and equipment engineers
To work to agreed local and national standards and protocols
Have full knowledge and understanding of NHSBSP guidelines and quality standards
Have the ability to undertake theoretical and clinical on the job training
Attend and complete annual mandatory training
Able to demonstrate day to day analytical and problem-solving skills selecting appropriate action/ advise when needed
Have evidence of appropriate ongoing work-related development (maintained portfolio)
Motivated and have enthusiasm to continually develop skills
Good fitness level
Ability to travel independently to mobile units throughout Gloucestershire
