Job summary
We have an exciting new opportunity for up to 1.5 Band 7 Clinical Specialist Physiotherapists to join our Inpatient Respiratory Therapy Service. The role(s) will be expected to take the lead for managing the respiratory therapy service provision to the newly formed Respiratory High Care Unit (RHCU) at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, as well as providing specialist clinical support to the wider Respiratory Therapy Service across Gloucestershire and Cheltenham General hospitals as required.
We are looking for candidates with proven highly specialist skills in this area, who will be responsible for the delivery of expert respiratory therapy, alongside joint operational management of the therapy team covering the RHCU and wider Respiratory Therapy service.
We are seeking therapists who have a high level of clinical expertise in the medical and therapeutic management of the medical respiratory cohort, including implementation and management of non-invasive-ventilation. Candidates will have excellent communication skills and embrace the challenges of establishing highly specialist therapeutic support to a new clinical area as part of a wider multidisciplinary team.
You will form an integral part of the wider senior leadership team and can expect on-going support to further your professional development, through our leadership forum.
Main duties of the job
- To deliver therapeutic intervention, acting as a highly specialist clinician within the Respiratory Therapy Team, by using the principles of Physiotherapy in an integrated and client-centred way supported by the Therapy Competency Framework.
- To operationally manage Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy staff working within the RHCU, including supervision, annual appraisal, training and general support.
- As a senior clinical decision maker, support the managerial and operational leadership for the wider therapy team in the Respiratory Therapy Service . To ensure an effective and evidence based service through assessing, planning and implementing treatment programmes.

- To be responsible for the operational management of the RHCU therapy team and wider respiratory therapy service as required by monitoring, coordinating own and other caseloads, including reallocation of work during absence and appropriately delegation to junior therapists and support workers.
