Hepatology Nurse Specialist, Band 6- Gastroenterology (15 hours a week)
This is a exciting opportunity to join our Hepatology team. You will manage, treat and support a diverse case load of patients with a wide range of liver disease throughout the county.
You will play an integral part in our Hepatocellular Carcinoma clinics helping to drive forward early detection of liver cancer.
You will be encouraged to work autonomously and are welcome to apply if you would like to do in conjunction with a already current part-time post.
Main duties of the job
You will work closely with the lead Consultant of Hepatology in delivering a nurse led service for patients providing symptom management, counselling, surveillance, helpline advice, taking part in research and audit.
The number of patients with liver disease has greatly increased over the past decade . We have over 900 patients on our books, the service is increasing and expanding.
Liver disease is now the 3rd leading cause of premature death in the UK.the nurse led service is well established but forever expanding so requires flexible thinking and working.

We are a team of 3 liver specialist nurses we pride ourselves on our service and the specialist knowledge and support we provide to patients, staff and family within the acute setting and through our nurse led outpatient clinics.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be a member of a specialist nursing team responsible for a caseload of liver patients on both in-patient and out-patient basis.
The post holder will manage, treat and support a diverse caseload of patients with a wide range of liver disease throughout the county. The postholder will work automatously and contribute to the provision of a nurse-led service. This encompasses interventions which enable the patient tostay at home thus avoiding hospital admission.
The post holder will be responsible for face to face nurse led Hepatocellular Carcinoma clinics and rapid access clinics. Fibroscanning duringthese clinics should the need arise. Drug monitoring, prescription management, attending QE consultation once a month in satellite clinic todiscuss those patients for consideration of transplant acting as the patients advocate once has grown confident within the role. Working closely with the wider MDT, palliative discussions, arrangement of Pleurex drains for end of life.
