Job summary
Expansion of GI surgery across the 5th floor has given an exciting opportunity for a band 7 senior sister/ charge nurse for the 29 bedded emergency admission ward.
We are looking for a highly motivated, organised, caring and proactive individuals with appropriate years band 6 experience within the surgical division and extensive years acute post graduation experience.
You will provide support for our emergency upper gastrointestinal and colorectal patients patients, who are being admitted via our SAU and Emergency department. A good working relationship with the SAU band 7 and elective ward band 7 is essential to ensure good patient flow between the areas.
You will also need to provide professional leadership to the nursing team and students, acting as a role model within the ward, surgical division and the Trust ensuring that competence in managerial.
Main duties of the job
Communication and interpersonal skills
Be visible and maintain responsibility for the department, ensuring that day to day delivery is timely and safe, supporting the organisation to meet the corporate agenda; for example, Care Quality Commission and legislation.
Lead on and facilitate complex care, discharge, or patient care issues, and also on complaints being able to use analytical skills to problem solve and find solutions to ensure that best practice, and best patient care outcomes are achieved. To ensure that services are continually developed.
This will include meeting with patients and their representatives to manage and resolve complaint issues.
Leadership, management and team working
Highly visible, accessible, and influential figure on whom staff, patients, families and carers can rely, to ensure the fundamentals of care are delivered effectively and efficiently.
Provide clear clinical leadership for nursing, supporting development of nursing skills, providing expert clinical knowledge.
Support the development of nursing skills in all aspects of the role providing expert clinical knowledge and specialised advice.
Provide nursing leadership, set and maintain professional nursing standards. The post holder will be professionally and managerially responsible for the named staff on the ward at any one time.

The expansion of our emergency GI service across the 5th is the final part of the fit for the future reconfiguration plans, so developing good working relationships is essential to support effective capacity and flow. You will be highly visible, accessible and influential figure on whom staff, patients, families and carers can rely.
The new reconfiguration will split our elective and emergency pathways giving us the following wards; 13 elective beds at Cheltenham, 29 elective beds on 4a at Gloucester; 29 emergency admitting beds on 5a at Gloucester and an expanded SAU on ward5b.
