Job summary
This is a post (8PA) for the department of Dermatology. The focus of this post is to provide general dermatology and surgery services, a willingness to accept responsibility and provide leadership to the wider clinical team. The post will be based at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and Cheltenham General Hospitals.The dermatology service is located at Aspen Centre. Facilities include clinic rooms, theatre, minor procedure rooms for skin surgery, treatment and diagnostic facilities.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will run outpatient clinics and/or minor op lists in the dermatology outpatient department, supported in clinic by their consultant colleagues. The post holder will also work closely with our specialist nurses and will occasionally be required to teach our medical students and other junior staff.
Integral to the post, will be:Ensuring the provision of a first class Dermatology serviceWorking in accordance with the Trust's procedures and operating policiesTo conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust's service plansTo maintain the confidence of business plans and developments strategies formulated for the specialty, the Support Services Division or the Trust.Working collaboratively with all members of the dermatology team whilst building working relationships to maintain and happy and functioning department.

Clinical responsibilitiesTo collaborate and work to maintain dermatology services in line with strategic requirements.To provide, with the other consultants in the specialty, routine and emergency dermatology services to the Trust, cover for annual, study and professional leave.To provide a consultation and advisory service to medical colleagues in other specialities in the Trust.To develop a special interest to complement those of the existing Consultants in Dermatology Service accordance with the priorities of the Trust.
Education and trainingTo take responsibility for the professional supervision and appraisal of junior medical staff, in conjunction with colleagues.To participate in the education and training of junior doctors, medical students, nurses and general practitioners.To Participate in the training and assessment of specialist trainees rotating through the departmentTo liaise with medical staff in other specialities and participate in clinical meetings and postgraduate activities within the trust.
Continuing professional developmentTo maintain and develop good communicationsTo participate in research in accordance with priorities agrees within the clinical groups and the trust within available resourcesTo contribute to the development of dermatology services. Treatment guidance and promotion of greater knowledge of the management of dermatological conditions in primary care.
Clinical GovernanceTo demonstrate a firm commitment to the principles in clinical governance including:Developing and maintaining appropriate systems and practice to ensure effective clinical audit in dermatology Attending and contributing to the Trusts Clinical Governance Programme Participating in the Trusts Clinical Reporting system (Datix)Developing a programme of personal continuing professional education and development, within available resources and within the workload and priorities of the service, as agreed with the Clinical Lead and Speciality Director and in accordance with Royal College requirements. - Entry on specialist registrar in dermatology (or entry expected within 6months from the date of interview)
- Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment
- Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies by time of appointment in line with GMC standards
