We have recently undergone a £6.5m equipment replacement programme on the Cheltenham General site, and are undergoing significant investment on the Gloucestershire Royal site as part of the Image Guided Interventional Service (IGIS) and fit for the future project.

We have also been given national approval for the advancement of one of the first Community Diagnostic Centres in the South West - a new initiative as described in the 2020 Richards report as a key requirement for the sustainability and streamlined provision of acute and elective services in the future of Diagnostic Services . This centre is due to open next year, and staff will have the opportunity to rotate through this centre, as well as our community sites in a very exciting future here at GHNHSFT.

Main duties of the job

This post provides experience in all aspects of general radiography, trauma & orthopaedics, CT, digital fluoroscopy and interventional/cardiac radiography. There is opportunity for a lot of variety and excellent career prospects to enable you to consolidate your skills in a supportive environment.

We are a large directorate offering a broad range of sub-specialty work, CPD is encouraged and we believe we can offer an exciting opportunity in a very diverse department with scope to progress in any area of interest. An established preceptorship programme is in place for newly qualified staff.

We are a placement site with high numbers of students and trainees, and you will be supported to develop your skills to supervise, instruct and train student radiographers on placement and trainee assistant practitioners.

The Directorate is innovative in developing the service whilst remaining responsive to the needs of patients and ensuring the development and education of staff.

About us

The Radiology Directorate at GHNHSFT manages services across 10 sites in Gloucestershire including 2 large District General Hospitals. We are the second largest directorate in the South West of England offering a broad range of sub-specialty work including adult and paediatric radiography including trauma and orthopaedic examinations, mobile imaging, general radiography, cardiac and interventional procedures, digital fluoroscopy, CT scanning, MRI and Ultrasound. This is an especially exciting time to join us as the department at Cheltenham General Hospital has undergone a major refurbishment programme with all modalities benefiting from £6.5m equipment replacement investment. Our plans for this year include a PACS replacement programme, significant investment in the growth of the Image Guided Interventional Service (IGIS), and operationalising the Community Diagnostic Centre, as well as continued development of our 5 year strategy towards further advanced Radiographic practice and quality improvements.
