GHNHSF undertakes approximately 6,000 births a year providing a high level of maternity care for women, who require midwife-led, obstetric, neonatal or anaesthetic services. Community midwives are responsible for a caseload of women and birthing people from booking in early pregnancy, through to discharge from postnatal care, providing good continuity throughout the antenatal and postnatal period. A successful applicant must be able to be on call for homebirths, as these are rostered within the team.We are looking for midwives to provide evidence-based, women-centered midwifery care and be accountable for the overall provision of excellent maternity care. You will work flexibly within the Midwifery Service, providing individualized, competent midwifery practice with a Midwife led and Consultant led caseload of women. You will work within the NMC Code of Professional Standards (March 2015) as an autonomous midwifery practitioner and maintain compliance with service standards, policies and guidelines so that effective, safe care is provided at all times including our Birth Options care pathway.
Main duties of the job
You will be participating in a community midwifery team, responsible for excellent antenatal and postnatal care for a caseload of women and birthing people.
The Cheltenham team cover Cheltenham, Tewkesbury and North Cotswolds, providing high standards of care.
Your main priority will be to demonstrate and promote a woman and birthing people and family centered style of clinical practice.
A new £2.7 million free standing birth unit is being built for Cheltenham and is set to open in Spring 2024. The community team work closely with the birth unit team and will support them in facilitating birth. The new birth unit has a wealth of space so you will be key in shaping and creating a hub for pregnancy, birth and postnatal community.
You will be responsible for delivering and maintaining a high standard of day-to-day, evidence based practice for all women in the designated caseload. It is expected that you will provide the full range of midwifery support and care, which includes antenatal and postnatal care, homebirths, on calls and liaising with multi-disciplinary team. The team aim to provide good continuity of care throughout the perinatal period and work well together to ensure all colleagues are well supported.
Your psychosocial, holistic care skills will be developed within this role - to include caring for families under social services, women who smoke, women who have mental health illness and women who do not speak English (along with many other vulnerabilities).
