Job summary

The Professional Education Practitioner will be a visible role model, providing expert advice, knowledge, guidance and support to clinicians. They will increase awareness of GHNHSFT career pathways, and engage staff raising aspirations and achievements. On a practical level, this will involve leading on the day-to-day delivery of the Preceptorship Programme in line with the National Preceptorship Framework. The PEP liaises with the Professional Education Manager as the Preceptorship Strategic Lead to ensure a high-quality Preceptorship Programme is delivered for the organisation. This programme supports the smooth transition of preceptees, helping them to succeed in their new role and in developing confidence as an independent, autonomous and innovative professional, therefore influencing patient experience and outcomes. The role also involves supporting and providing ongoing development for preceptors.

The PEP's educational delivery extends to supporting programmes delivered by other members of the Professional Education and the Clinical Skills Team; for example, simulation-based education, clinical skills training and care certificate programme. The PEP will also work collaboratively with ward-based teams, corporate nursing team, clinical educators and practice development teams to ensure the clinical and development needs of the non-medical practitioner workforce are identified and supported.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will primarily be responsible for, but not limited to:

o Plan, organise and deliver the Preceptorship programme and other teaching sessions for the non-medical workforce

o Implement the National Preceptorship Framework to deliver a high-quality Preceptorship programme for the organisation

o Support delivery of clinical skills training, simulation-based education and other relevant training within the Professional Education Team

o Work within the team to develop innovative educational platforms such as virtual teaching, webinars, and the use of simulation-based education

o Demonstrate high standards of personal and professional behaviour acting as a visible role model for others and ambassador for the Trust

o Maintain expert level of clinical competence by participating in a range of clinical activities

o Display effective leadership qualities whilst influencing and evaluating practice, in accordance with our Trust objectives, values and behaviours and professional and national standards, including BAME aspirations Trust wide

o Network locally, regionally and nationally and communicate complex ideas and concepts between the clinical environments, Academic Education Institutions and the wider health care community.

o Evaluate effectiveness and quality of training delivery, and maintain accurate training records

o Develop a culture where lifelong learning, education and development are seen as integral to clinical and professional practice

Support managers and individuals to identify training, competency and skill requirements of the clinical workforce

Analyse and interpret data from a variety of sources (Training Needs Analysis, scoping exercises, focus groups etc) to develop innovative education programme, in order to enhance the skills, knowledge and competence of staff

Develop a culture where lifelong learning, education and development are seen as integral to clinical and professional practice

Explore, develop and support opportunities for inter professional learning

To identify, plan and deliver educational activities for the organisation, the post holder will:

Collaborate with colleagues to assess, plan, implement and support education, training and development for all grades of staff across clinical divisions

Assist with the development, delivery and evaluation of education and training programmes using a range of diverse learning approaches

  • Active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council or HCPC
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of ongoing registration and revalidation

Desirable

  • Relevant teaching qualification or willingness to gain a teaching qualification
  • Relevant qualification on simulation, professional advocacy or leadership

Experience

  • Significant post registration experience within an acute care environment
  • Previous experience in educating and supporting learners
