Mobile Cancer Care Unit Driver, Band 3 (30 hours a week)

We are looking to recruit an experienced HGV Class 2 driver, who will be able to co-ordinate the driving and maintenance of our Mobile Chemotherapy Unit in the absence of our full time driver. The purpose built vehicle, with all the necessary drugs and equipment is driven to various locations across the county to enable our specialist chemotherapy nurses to treat patients closer to their homes.
The vehicle currently operates three days per week. It is essential that you are prepared to develop an awareness of the needs of cancer patients and their families as the post holder will be expected to provide a supporting role for the nursing team when patients are being treated on the unit. All normal terms and conditions associated with the HGV class 2 licence apply to this post. In addition you will be expected to complete a certificate of Professional Competence also known as the Drivers Qualification card.
Main duties of the job
Ensure the Vehicle is ready and safe to drive to its location
Drive the Mobile cancer care unit to various locations to enable patients to have chemotherapy/ cancer treatments near their own home
Ensure patients are made comfortable with teas and coffees on arrival
Weigh patients and input their weight onto our online system
Drive vehicle back to Gloucester at the end of the day

To act as a resource and point of contact regarding all maintenance issues, including repairs and organisation of servicing.
To liaise with medical engineering regarding repairs and servicing of on board medical equipment.
To organise and coordinate internal and external cleaning and general maintenance of vehicle.
To liaise with the charity Hope for Tomorrow regarding driving cover for charity events at which the vehicle needs to attend.
To drive the mobile chemotherapy facility to different locations across Gloucestershire.
To undertake any other associated duties as part of the mobile chemotherapy unit to support delivery of service required e.g. phlebotomy, blood pressure and removal of cannulas.
To carry out daily risk assessments on all visited sites before packing and setting up the unit Report accordingly.
To carry out all tasks in compliance with department policies and procedures e.g. fire, hand washing audit.
