Job summary

We are seeking a highly skilled, knowledgeable and motivated Registered Nurse to join our Critical Care team as a Band 6 Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE).

The successful applicant will assist the Band 7 CNE, to lead the training and professional development of nursing staff, of all grades, within the 'outstanding' cross county critical care service and wider Trust as appropriate, the details of which are outlined within the Job Description. We are looking for individual who possess excellent communication and leadership skills with evidence of working creatively and with a clear determination to deliver safe, effective and high quality patient care that is underpinned with kindness and compassion. Having the ability to role model a positive attitude towards service delivery and progression is key to this position.

There is the expectation that the post holder will work collaboratively with personnel from other departments and organisations to continuously raise the standard and provision of critical care nurse training and education to include other units within the South West network and local universities.

Main duties of the job

- To support the Band 7 CNE to strategically lead the training and education of nursing staff, of all grades, within DCC

- To work alongside the Matron, the Band 7's and wider team to determine and deliver on service strategic objectives

- To act as a resource for registered nurses within critical care disseminating clinical skills and knowledge

- To encourage interdisciplinary working and education to meet the needs of critically ill patient

- To maintain visibility within the clinical area, role modelling high standards of care, evidence based practice and effective leadership

- To support the recruitment of nurses through effective processes to enable the selection of the most suitable candidates, whilst supporting those individuals to make an appropriate career choice.

- To facilitate staff retention by focusing upon initial selection as above and promoting clinical support, job satisfaction and opportunities for staff personal and professional development

- To support the management & maintenance of training records and ensure fairness and transparency of training resource allocation

- To develop effective links with the Trust Quality Improvement Academy to enable the support of DCC nurses undertaking QI projects

- To represent DCC at the most appropriate local, network and national education forums

- To take an active role in the development and implementation of local guidelines and policies relating to practice

Qualifications

Essential

  • Active registration with the NMC as a Registered Nurse
  • Recognised teaching and assessing qualification or working towards (i.e PG CAP)
  • Critical Care course at level 6 or 7
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of a professional portfolio, registration revalidation & commitment to on-going learning & willing to working towards an MSc

Desirable

  • Completion of Bronze or Silver QI

Experience

Essential

  • Have requisite level of Critical Care experience at Band 5 level or above (substantial years experience)
  • Recognised for possessing expert critical care knowledge and clinical skills and for demonstrating high standards of patient care
  • Evidence of building effective working relationships with members of the multi-disciplinary team and other key stakeholders
