Job summary
We are so excited to give the opportunity for someone who is enthusiastic about dental technology, like we are, to join our friendly team. They will be joining our laboratory to help us continue to provide excellent custom made medical devices (CMMD) and develop our service. Our laboratory has had to evolve over the past three years to adapt to the changing needs of healthcare in a primary care setting and the specialties we support. I am pleased to say that we have built an engaged and forward thinking technical team, involved in physical and digital techniques, teaching, clinical support, and shaping the service we provide. Each year we have improved the laboratory equipment and facilities to ensure a safe, healthy and functional workplace that promotes an enjoyable environment to spend our working days in!
The role will require the provision of CMMD in an acute trust setting, provide dental technical services to our clinical colleagues primarily in Orthodontics but supporting others such as Restorative or Maxillofacial Surgery when the need arises. We have a great relationship with our Orthodontic clinicians and feel this helps improve overall outcomes for the patient which is the focus of all we do.

Main duties of the job
We are looking for a motivated, skilled dental technician who wants to support and develop in our team.
The successful candidate will need to take responsibility for their own working practice (processes/equipment/materials) providing; standard orthodontic appliances, basic restorative appliances, dental working models and will have principle responsibility for Study Model provision. Along side their technical duties they will be expected to help in the co-ordination of work allocation, liaising and work with the multidisciplinary team/service users, observe and comply with all Trust policies and record keeping, understand and complying with all national guidance relating to their specialty and practice (e.g. Medical Device Directive 93/42/EEC and GDC registration).

The laboratory team is currently 4 Dental Technicians, 2 Maxillofacial Prosthetists, and one Clerical Officer and the laboratory is open 8:30 to 17:00 Monday to Friday.

- Standing to casting impressions/trimming models/polishing. This is a daily occurrence.
- Seated to abrade/cut appliances using a dental micro motor. This is a daily occurrence.

- The post holder will potentially be exposed to upset service users and work with the team to provide an appropriate resolution.
Working conditions
- Post holder can be expected to be exposed to respiratory irritants and moderate levels of dust. This is a daily occurrence.
- Exposure to body fluids in the form of saliva and blood. This is a daily occurrence.
