Job summary

An opportunity has arisen within the Breast Specialist Nursing Team based at Thirlestaine Breast Centre at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Do you want to develop? We have a permanent, full time opportunity to work within our team as a Cancer Support Worker.

The Cancer Support Worker is an integral part of the team working under the supervision of the existing Clinical Nurse Specialists.

The main purpose of the role is to support people to navigate the complex health and social care system during and or following completion of cancer treatment. The post holder will coordinate care by delivering emotional and practical support to patients with a diagnosis of cancer. You will specifically lead in the delivery of a 'Personalised Care and Support Assessment' which aims to identify and address patients concerns.

The successful candidate will join a senior nursing team who will work across both hospital sites, predominately in the outpatient setting.

Main duties of the job

You will work closely with the Breast Specialist Nursing team both under supervision and independently as patient interaction/intervention or practice dictates.

You will work as part of the wider Cancer Support Worker Team and have support from the team leaders.

The post holder will demonstrate excellent organisational skills, must be flexible in approach, able to exercise initiative and demonstrate a consistently high standard of professionalism, being aware of the need for confidentiality and integrity. The post holder will have excellent communication skills.

Knowledge and skills to include:

- Relevant Health and Social Care experience at AFC Band 3 or equivalent.

- Efficient in the use of Microsoft Word for Windows, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Internet

- Understanding of person-centred support

- Excellent communication skills

- Able to use own initiative and work without direct supervision

- Good observational skills

- Practical problem-solving skills
