Main duties of the job

We are a friendly forward thinking department with a vacancy for an experienced, enthusiastic Radiographer who is passionate about education. As a placement site for undergraduate radiographers, trainee assistant practitioners and upcoming apprenticeships with close links with several universities including the University of Gloucestershire we are looking for someone who is a good communicator and is highly competent with a range of clinical skills and has experience working with students.

The Directorate is innovative in developing the service whilst remaining responsive to the needs of patients and ensuring the development and education of staff as well as students. We offer a broad range of sub-specialty work, CPD is encouraged and we believe we can offer an exciting opportunity in a very diverse department with scope to progress in any area of interest in addition to Practice education duties.

Applicants must hold a BSc Radiography or equivalent; have HCPC registration, appropriate experience and hold (or be working towards) a Teaching and Assessing qualification (eg FLAP, SoR PEAS)

About us

The Radiology Directorate at GHNHSFT manages services across 10 sites in Gloucestershire including 2 District General Hospitals. We are the second largest directorate in the South West of England offering a broad range of sub-specialty work including adult and paediatric radiography including trauma and orthopaedic examinations, mobile imaging, general radiography, cardiac and interventional procedures, digital fluoroscopy, CT scanning, MRI and Ultrasound. This is an especially exciting time to join us as the department at Cheltenham General Hospital has undergone a major refurbishment programme with all modalities benefiting from new equipment including DR xray rooms and mobile machines, cone beam CT and 3 new Canon CT scanners. On the Gloucester site work is also underway to develop a state of the art interventional unit and the local CDC is due to open in September 2023.

CPD is actively encouraged and there are opportunities to learn additional skills in all modalities to ensure that you feel fulfilled in your role.

Job responsibilities

As a band 6 radiographer, the post holder will work within a multidisciplinary team to ensure students receive the highest standard of support, education and supervision as well as providing support to departmental staff . By working closely with the Education Lead for the department the aim is to provide an environment which delivers quality education and high quality patient care

You will need to have a high level of clinical knowledge, with good communication and decision making skills, the ability to prioritise and to be flexible in your approach to work, working closely with the band 7 leads to deliver an efficient, effective service while offering guidance and support to junior colleagues as well as students.

All staff are expected to work at both Acute hospital sites, and there is also opportunity to work in our community hospital departments.

The post holder will be expected to participate in the 4 week rolling rota shift system which exists within the department to provide 24/7 cover.

  • DCR(R) , BSC in Radiography, or equivalent overseas qualification State registration (HCPC).
  • Demonstrate a high degree of practical experience and up to date knowledge of plain film imaging
  • Maintain a high standard of patient care and professional conduct
  • Be able to work under pressure and prioritise workload. Be able to deal with day to day decisions when working single-handed
  • Work well both in a team and independently
  • Demonstrate good communication skills both verbal and written
  • Teach, train and motivate student radiographers and trainee assistant practitioners
  • Evidence of ongoing CPD
  • Be able to participate in provision of 24/7 cover
  • Evidence of teaching and assessing qualification or be working towards PEAS or other accredited course
