Job summary

We require Trust Grade Junior Doctors to work in the Trauma and Orthopaedics Department at Gloucestershire Royal & Cheltenham General Hospital, although post-holders may rotate between both sites. These posts are not recognised for training but will offer a similar experience as the Core Surgical Trainees and F2s who share the rota. The posts are initially for 12 months but are extendable, depending on satisfactory performance

These posts provide the opportunity to gain skills in orthopaedics at CST level equivalent to gain more experience prior to applying for ST3 entry. You will be given every opportunity to attend theatre/clinic as well as working as part of team looking after elective and trauma patients. There are also audit and research opportunities for you to build a competitive CV.

Main duties of the job

Integral to the responsibilities of the post are the following requirements:-To ensure the provision of a safe, efficient and clinical effective orthopaedic trauma serviceTo provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in these specialtiesTo sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriateTo undertake all work in accordance with the Trust's procedures and operating policies

To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust's service plansTo maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Surgical Division or the Trust

Both sites operate a ward-based structure, in which doctors rotate between elective and trauma wards. This ensures the workload is spread evenly and there are predictable times in which doctors can attend clinics and theatres for their educational needs.
